Where Solar Power Midwest Works
We're one of the solar companies in Illinois installing solar, energy-efficient windows, insulated siding, and heat pumps for homeowners and businesses across the Chicago suburbs and into central Illinois. Most of our footprint is ComEd territory, where net metering credits your bill for the power your system sends back to the grid; our Peoria-area work is Ameren Illinois. Solar Companies in Illinois: What Actually Sets One Apart
Solar power in Illinois is sold by everyone from single-truck local outfits to national door-to-door crews, and the coverage area matters as much as the pitch. Solar Power Midwest installs across the Chicago suburbs, Will, DuPage, Cook, Kane, Kendall, and Grundy Counties, where ComEd serves most homes, and into central Illinois around Peoria and Tazewell County, which is Ameren Illinois territory. Which utility serves your address changes your interconnection paperwork and your net metering rate, so a solar company that only works one utility often cannot properly quote a home outside its usual footprint.
The financial case still holds up without the federal residential credit, which expired December 31, 2025. Illinois homeowners are paid through Illinois Shines, the state SREC program that issues ongoing per-kWh payments through the Adjustable Block Program, plus a 20-year property tax exemption on the value solar adds to the home. ComEd separately rebates qualifying paired equipment, like a heat pump, for up to $2,000. Net metering also changed under the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act: systems interconnected after December 31, 2024 earn export credits on the supply portion of the rate rather than the full retail rate, while earlier systems generally keep their prior terms. On a typical $15,000 to $30,000 system, SPM customers average $210 a month in bill savings, putting payback around 7 to 10 years once SREC income is factored in.
ComEd or Ameren Trade Ally Status
A real Illinois installer is registered as a Trade Ally with your utility, ComEd in the Chicago suburbs or Ameren Illinois in the Peoria area, and files your interconnection paperwork directly instead of leaving it to you.
Illinois Shines Approved Vendor
Only approved vendors can enroll your system in Illinois Shines, the state program that pays ongoing SREC payments for the electricity your panels produce under the Adjustable Block Program.
Local, Licensed Install Crews
Ask whether the crew on your roof is a licensed, insured employee of the company you signed with, not a subcontractor dispatched from out of state after the sale.
A Written Workmanship Warranty
Panel and inverter manufacturer warranties cover the equipment. A separate workmanship warranty from the installer, in writing, is what covers the roof penetrations and wiring if something leaks or fails.
Illinois solar buyers typically pay $15,000 to $30,000 before incentives and reach payback in 7 to 10 years once the Illinois-specific programs below are applied. The federal 30% residential credit (Section 25D) expired December 31, 2025, so these state-level and utility programs, plus ComEd or Ameren net metering credits for the power your system sends back to the grid, now carry the incentive stack for homeowners.
